Entre l’ombre et la lumière, il est au cœur des deux dernières révolutions musicales. Hubert Blanc-Francard alias BoomBass a vécu de l’intérieur dès le début des années 90, l’émergence du hip-hop et des musiques électroniques dans notre pays, mais aussi son rayonnement à l’international, la célèbre “French Touch”. Cet enfant de la balle -son père est le réputé ingénieur du son Dominique Blanc-Francard (Serge Gainsbourg, Julien Clerc…) - démarre comme directeur artistique chez Polydor à la fin des années 80, mais il passe très vite de l’autre côté de la barrière. Alors qu’il bidouille déjà sur les premiers samplers, Hubert rencontre en studio Philippe “Zdar” Cerboneschi, assistant de son père, qui devient son ami. Les deux complices participent à la chevauchée fantastique d’un certain Mc Solaar. Zdar derrière la console et BoomBass à la production. C’est lui qui signe notamment les fameux hits “Qui sème le vent récolte le tempo” ou “Nouveau Western”.
Lancé, le tandem se multiple. C’est la naissance d’un premier projet hip-hop instrumental sous pseudo La Funk Mob publié par le mythique label anglais Mo’ Wax qui leur permet de rayonner dès 1994 au-delà de nos frontières. Mais l’heure est aux rythmes plus enlevés. La house made in France renverse tout sur son passage, Daft Punk montre le bout de sa tête, Philippe et Hubert se réinventent en Cassius. Au fil des années, les tubes s’enchaînent (“Cassius 99”, “La Mouche”, “Feeling for you”, “Toop Toop”, “I >3 U SO”) et leurs prestations en DJ set les conduit aux quatre coins de la planète de New York à Ibiza en passant par l’Australie. Ils comptent parmi les héros de cette fameuse french touch. Cassius, c’est cinq albums éclatants où la house fraye avec la pop, le rap ou la soul. L’œuvre d’un duo que l’on pense inséparable. Hélas la vie, souvent chienne, en a décidé autrement. En juin 2019, la veille de la sortie de Dreems, leur ultime disque, Philippe disparaît tragiquement. Un an plus tard, BoomBass renaît avec le bien nommé EP “Le Virage”, entre Gainsbourg et Acid-House. Le nouveau départ d’un artiste unique qui porte en lui la force salvatrice de la musique. Parce qu’il est musique.
